Shannon Guillot-Wright, PhD

Shannon Guillot-Wright, PhD is an Associate Professor and Program Director in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at UTHealth School of Public Health. She also serves as the Director of Total Worker Health® at the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and the Director of Health Policy at the Violence and Injury Prevention Research Center. Her program of research focuses on occupational health equity and the use of evidence in policymaking, with an emphasis on precarious employment and environmental determinants of health among low-income and im/migrant workers. She is particularly interested in understanding power, influence, and social change using participatory research methods, such as ethnography, photovoice, and film. Dr. Guillot-Wright is PI or Co-I of several CDC- and NIH-funded projects, including the implementation of Docside Clinics and Healthcare Navigators throughout the Gulf Coast, as well as examining the use of research among policymakers. Previously, she was a selected artist for the National Academy of Medicine’s Health Equity Gallery, was selected to be part of the AAMC’s Center for Health Justice documentary team, has displayed over 100 photographs developed with participants, and her work has been featured in the American Journal of Public Health, New York Times, National Public Radio, Houston Public Radio, TIME Magazine, Texas Monthly, and Houston Chronicle. She is a Governing Councilor for the American Public Health Association, a board member for the Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research, sits on the Advisory Board for the Children’s Defense Fund – Texas, and was named a Robert Graham Center Senior Scholar in Health Policy. Before joining UTHealth, Dr. Guillot-Wright served as the Vice Chair of Research and Health Policy for the University of Texas Medical Branch’s (UTMB) Department of Family Medicine. She has her PhD in Medical Humanities from UTMB, MA in Human Rights from Columbia University, and completed her postdoctoral training at the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center at Penn State.

Bibiana Toro Figueira, MPH
Bibiana Toro Figueira, MPH is the research manager at UTHealth’s PEOPLE Centered Lab. Her roles include coordinating and managing the Docside Clinic with Gulf Coast communities, establishing and developing community partnerships, and leading research analysis. Her areas of interest include social and environmental determinants of health, especially among low-income and im/migrant workers, with a focus on precarious labor. Before joining UTHealth, Bibiana earned her BSA from the University of Texas at Austin and her MPH with a specialization in Epidemiology from the University of Texas Medical Branch.
