We’re excited to announce that our Research Manager, Bibiana Toro Figueira, MPH was accepted as a @uthealthsph Environmental Sciences PhD student, beginning fall 2025! We are so proud of everything she’s helped our team accomplish and can’t wait to be part of this next step in her academic journey. “Working at UTHealth under the PEOPLE Centered Research Lab has been a transformative experience for me. Working with the Docside Clinics has made me realize the potential for research to be intertwined with community outreach and inspired me to continue my studies to pursue a PhD in Environmental Science under the Total Worker Health graduate program. Worker health, in our case with fishermen, includes occupational hazards, injuries, housing accessibility, food insecurity, and healthcare access among many other determinants. The Total Woker Health Track provides an opportunity to examine environmental determinants of health from the lens of labor, which I am excited to combine with my community work and research.” - @bibi.toro
